I wasn't a big fan of the Rolling Stones when I heard their music but when I found out they were misogynistic it made me dislike them even more. But then the more I thought about it, A LOT of modern music is misogynistic. Rap and Hip Hop is the worse to me. They're always singing about having sex with girls (not only sex but some other pretty explict things), how hott their bodies are, or even abusing women if the men don't get what they want. That's pretty sick I mean why on earth would you want to sing about this but I think musicians do because teenagers don't care. They don't care what the words are saying if they like the way it sounds, then they will purchase it on iTunes and tell all their friends. Honestly, I listen to rap sometimes, pretty nasty stuff too, and I notice how disgusting it is but I don't do anything about it. I still listen to it. And I feel like that is the problem. Too many people pass up the fact that people are making money by putting down women. Not only are they making money, but the expectation and reputation of women has also gone down. I feel like now guys are more like "oh yeah sex sex sex" and I know that guys have always been like that but it's happening at such young ages now. Girls are expected to do these vulger things that is being talked about in music and that's just not okay. So did the Rolling Stones spark this misogyny in music or was something around before then?
In my opinion, I feel like the Stones put the idea out there and as they became more successful, they kept writing more songs about it of course (why fix something if it ain't broke). But then other bands/groups wanted to be as successful so they sang about it and it just kept spreading. I honestly can't even imagine what music is going to be like in 10, 20 years from now. Will this issue stop? No, I don't think so because too many artists target this and that would cause too much of a ruckus. So will everyone just stop caring what exactly they're listening to because they "like how it sounds"? We'll just have to see.
