Snow Patrol is one of my favorite bands. I don't know why, but it's taken me a while to listen to all their albums. The first time I heard one of their older albums, A Hundred Million Suns, I didn't like it that much only a couple songs off of it. But when I listen to it now, I really like it. It seems like it takes a while for some of their work to grow on me, but overall I love them. Gary Lightbody has probably one of my favorite voices ever, besides Ed Sheeran which is another reason why I like them so much. My favorite album would have to be Fallen Empires or Final Straw. I was going to go to a Snow Patrol concert but I couldn't get the tickets in time which is a real bummer. They're definitely a band that I'm going to go see in concert some day.
One of my favorite songs by them, "Run"
This is probably their most popular recent song now, "Called Out In The Dark"
My mom has been asking me ever since the first day of school when we were going to listen to Led Zepplin. She was a huge Zepplin fan in high school and went to one of his concerts. I had heard of Zepplin in the movie School of Rock and always pictured them as a hard rock band so it was hard for me to beleive that my mom used to listen to them. When we listened to them in class, I did not like them that much. I'm not a big hard rock person so that's probably why. I mean I think electric guitars and drums are cool but the crazy rockstars aren't really my thing. I feel like Zepplin really sparked hard rock and heavy metal because other than Jimi Hendrix, no one really rocked out that hard with the electric guitars and had that angry screaming sound to them.
Earlier this week, my friend introduced me to the artist Zola Jesus. She said that she heard at at ACL and she was really good so I checked her out. When I was looking at her albums, the cover art for her album Stridulum really stood out to me. It is freaking creepy. So when I was listening to her songs from the album I just kept looking at the album cover and it was scaring me so I had trouble listening to her. But then a couple days ago I listened to her again and she sounded a lot like Flourence from Flourence and the Machine. I thought this was interesting because Flourence, I thought, had a very unique voice and I had never heard anything like her.
Zola Jesus, the more I listened to her, the more I liked her. One thing that I don't really like is that on her album Stridulum majority of her songs start out with a really long intrumental intro. My favorite songs by her are "In Your Nature", "Skin", and "Night". "Night" is pretty scary at the beginning but it's still a good song. If you like Florence and the Machine then I definitely think you will enjoy Zola.
This is her song "Night" which has the picture of her freaky album on it.
My favorite song by her, "In Your Nature" David Lynch remix.
Abbey Road was by far my favorite Beatles album. It sounded a lot more modern than their older albums. The White Album and and Sargent Peppers had kind of a retro sound to them and they were a little weird for me. I still liked them, but literally every song on Abbey Road I liked. There were some songs on it that I didn't know was written by the Beatles. For example, "Come Together", "Here Comes The Sun" and "Something". For some reason I thought they were written by the Stones or something.
One thing that I especially enjoy about this album is that the last songs (not including "Majesty") are all synced together to form one song. It actually blew my mind when we listened to it because I had never heard anything like that before. I don't know how the Beatles did it, but it sounds so cool it's insane. It legit sounds like one song and how they bring the melody from the first song back into one of the songs at the end is genius.
"You Never Give Me Your Money" was the first song in the medley and I absolutely loved it. I wish they had just continued the song and have it be slow rather than speed up but it was a great way to start out the super long song.
"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" was hilarious but freaky creepy. It had a really catchy tune to it but I have no idea how you would come up with the idea to write a song like this.
I wish the Beatles were young and how they were back then today because I would definitely listen to them a ton and love them much more. It would be pretty cool to be alive while the Beatles were extremely popular and not just some old rockers like they are now.
Eric Church has probably the most country voice I've ever heard. He sounds like a redneck hillbilly no joke. But that's what makes his songs so fun to sing along too because you get to have a really strong country accent. My favorite song by him is Springsteen which is probably a lot of people's favorites since its so popular but I don't care. It's popular because its absolutely fabulous. It reminds me of summer every time I hear it which is another reason why I like it so much. It's a lot different from his other songs because they sound so insanely country and this song isn't exactly. Overall I love Eric church and all his songs. He sounds exactly what people think country sounds like.
I really like The Band. It's so freaking cool how they made The Big Pink album. It's so amazing how they can take a different line of lyrics from different people and make a legit song. In my opinion, I think they sound better live than recorded which is really weird considering it's usually the other way around. When you watch them live, you can see the passion in their face and they way they play their instruments which is a really great quality in a band. In their song "The Weight", the lady's voice when they perform it is DROPDEAD BEUTIFUL. I love the guy's voice who songs that song because it has a country twang to it.
It's a bummer how the band members have died because I would really enjoy listening to more of their work.
Recently Mumford & Sons came out with their new album Babel. I liked a handful of their songs before but once I heard Babel I immediately fell in love. They have kind of a medieval sound to them I think. Their lyrics are so beautiful and all the songs on the album are really chill, which is why I like it so much. My favorites are "Not With Haste" and "Whispers In The Dark". In the song "Not With Haste" the chorus is:
"We will run and scream, you will dance with me. We'll fulfill our dreams and we'll be free. We will be who we are and they'll heal our scars and we'll be far away. "
Not only this song, but I feel like all their songs have a deeper meaning and I feel like they speak what they think and are passionate about it. That is why they are such a fantastic band.
Everyone got really into Two Door Cinema Club after seeing them at ACL. I didn't go to ACL but I wanted to see what everyone was freaking out about so I listened to a couple songs on their album Tourist History and they were freakishly good. The instrumentals in all their songs are so good. It sounds like an electric guitar, which is what is probably is, but I can't tell. I love the main singers voice also, it's so unique and there's not another artist who sounds like him. "What You Know", "Undercover Martyn", and "Come Back Home" are my favs on this album. The thing with Two Door is that I can't really listen to a full album at one time because all their songs are similar sounding and I can only take so much at one time. But a couple songs in one listening will blow your mind.
The first time we listened to Creme in class I didn't like them at all whatsoever. Their songs seem like they go on forever but they're actually just 2 minutes long. I think another reason for this is because all their songs sound the same, there's no variety. They have no "spunk" to them which is something bands should have. But I they were a little better in their next album.
Unlike the first album, I could, some what, stand to listen to them. The songs had a little different sounds to them and they weren't as boring as the first album. I still didn't like it though because they just seem like an average sounding band and they don't do anything for me. They're not exciting, just boring and dull. Granted it's very impressive how they make their band sound like there's about 5 people in it when there's actually 3. I'll give them props for that, but their music is just not appealing to me.
Sleepy Time Time is on their first album, Fresh Cream, and it makes me want to go sleepy time time.
Strange Brew is on the second album and it definitely has a different sound than the first album.
You probably don't like Taylor Swift and I can see why but I absolutely love her more than anyone else. I was always a fan of hers but last year when I went to her concert was when I became obsessed with her music. By far my favorite female artist. She is crazy successful teenager who has accomplished so much more than a lot of older artists. Not only that, but she's a huge inspiration to me as long as many other girls. Yes, all her songs are about breakup but I feel like that's what a lot of girls like about it. You can listen to her if you're mad, sad, happy because she has a song about basically everything involving boys. Anyways, she came out with her new album Red and it is the most amazing thing I've heard, favorite album of hers by far. A lot of my friends that I've talked to about it have said "it's not country". You're right, it's not country (it's listed in the country section on iTunes though, don't know why) but that doesn't make it bad, Taylor Swift is just trying new things with her music. This album has a lot of songs that are nothing like she's ever wrote before and I feel like it's a start of a new Taylor. That sounds cheesy but oh well. Taylor Swift never fails to amaze me and I'm so ready for a new album again but that probably won't be for a while.
I have heard of muliple people being obsessed with Pink Floyd but I've never listened to them because I thought they were some old classic rock band. But they're not at all like I expected. I actually like them a lot, and they're really similar to some of the bands I listen to. They remind me of Radiohead a lot by the way the lead singer sounds. I just think it's a little weird what some of the lyrics in their songs are. I'm pretty sure I could make better lyrics than them, but they make their strange lyrics sound amazing. I really enjoyed Pink Floyd and I'm definitely going to be looking them up on Spotify.
The Doors I did not like at all. Their songs were too long, the instruments are a lot louder than the vocals, and they were a little too jazzy for me. You can't hear the the singing unless you turn up the music really loud but then the instruments are blaring at you which is not enjoyable to me. I feel like they could be good, if they didn't have this problem. I'm also not a fan of long songs, especially rock ones because, to me, it feels like it's the same sounds over and over again and it goes on for ages.
Radical Face is a great band, starting with the name. I mean it just sounds so hipster and cool/radical. I feel like they're one of the bands that goes to ACL as a band that no one really knows about but then after, everyone gets obsessed with them because they're so great, like NEEDTOBREATHE this year. The reason why I like them so much is because of the way Ben Cooper, the lead singer, sounds. He has a really creepy voice and in their songs the vocals are quieter than the instrumentals which gives it more of an eerie sound. But that also kind of bothers me how it's quieter because then I have to turn it up louder to hear the words and the music in the background is just blaring, which is a little obnoxious but it's whatever. Overall, whenever I'm looking for new music I always go check out some of the songs I haven't listened to and literally everytime I find 5 more songs that I love.
I did one of my earlier posts on Jason Aldean, who is, if you don't remember, my all time favorite country singer. A few weeks ago he came out with a new album called Night Train and I am IN LOVE WITH IT. Seriously it's basically the only thing I've been listening to since it came out. I think I get tired of it so I start listening to other things, then a song from the album comes on while my iPod is on shuffle and it blows my mind so I just end up listening to the album again. His voice is like Jesus singing and the songs on this album are so incredibly beautiful. It has to be my favorite album of his because the songs are so sweet and it's also a lot of slower country which is my favorite type. Some people would say, "it sounds the same as his other albums" and it does in a way, but to me it sounds newer. For example, in the song "Staring At The Sun" he uses a lot of metaphors which makes the song a lot more specical than some of his older stuff. If you listen to country music I'd be surprised if you haven't heard it and if you haven't you're seriously missing out.
There are few songs that have a really strong meaning to me. I love music but there are only a few songs that I feel like have a lot of passion in them. Hero Of War by Rise Against is a very powerful song to me. It's about a soldier in war and it paints such a vivid picture in my head of what it was like it's insane. I've never had a song do that to me before. No, no one in my family has died in war, but my Grandad was a Naval Avaitor so he didn't have to worry about all the killing going on down on the ground but I've seen multiple army movies so I can kind of see what it's like. But this song is so deep and depressing because it really shows what soldiers have to go through sometimes, killing women, killing people that matter to others and it really effects me and my perspective on wars.
The only song I knew from AWOLNATION was their most popular song Sail, which is an amazing song, I've never heard a song like it and I immediately fell in love with it. It has such a cool sound to it, so I expected the other songs from that same album, Megalithic Symphony, to be similar to it in a way. But the first time I listened to the album I didn't like it because it's nothing what I expected it to be. Recently though I heard the album again and I loved it. Their songs are like techno- alternative and alternative rock. Granted some of the songs on the album are just 30 second noises, the ones that are actually sung are amazing.
Kill Your Heroes is a favorite
This song had to grow on me because I'm not a big hard rock fan and in it the guy sounds like he's yelling, but it's a great song.
I'm not a huge fan of remixes of songs, but I really like mashups, a lot. I find them so fasinating and cool, not to mention they get me pretty pshyced up. The White Panda is a DJ who mashes songs. But what I really enjoy about him is that he takes the instrumentals from one song and the vocals to another song, and mixes them. They sound SUPER GOOD. One of the reasons why I like it so much is because I can still sing along to the song, unlike other mashups that takes a little bit from a ton of songs and mixes them. The White Panda makes the song sound like a brand new piece of work which is what I find truly astonishing and absolutely awesome.
One of my favorites, M83's song "Midnight City" with Kanye West's "Good Life
Tom Petty and Notorius B.I.G. Two totally different genres, one amazing song.
Jimi Hendrix reminds me of the movie School of Rock because when I think of that movie I can always imagine Jack Black screeching a song away and going hard on his guitar. Jimi definitely is one crazy awesome guy who I feel like changed rock and roll. Before him, no one really did crazy electric guitar stuff (or everyone out of the people we listened to in class). The only band that was closest to Hendrix's ability was Creme, but I didn't like them at all. I feel like Jimi keeps it fresh with his music and his guitar talent sets a new standard for rock and roll. All rock and roll that I think of today, is about the insane keys and sound of the electric guitar, and Jimi Hendrix definitely brought that ingredient to the table. I feel like Hendrix was the turn to the more modern sounding Rock, or at least what I think of to be rock.
When I think of Jimi Hendrix I always think of some hard core rock band and that's Aerosmith to me. I don't listen to them, but I've heard a few of their songs and this song could be a bad example of it, but the point I'm trying to get at is that Hendrix's guitar work was shown in many bands after him.
Whenever you hear the name Ed Sheeran what do you think of? I think of an angel because he most definitely sounds like one. Anytime I hear one of his songs my heart melts a little because his voice is absolutely stunnning. He has such a soft sound, I can't even put into words how amazing he sounds you just have to listen to him. And another thing, he sounds like he would be a super hot guy with dark brown straight hair who likes to sing chill songs but no he's actually a ginger who's super pale. My mind was blown when I saw a picture of him. His music is so incredibly chill and beautiful, I'm pretty sure if you don't like acoustic music you will love him. What is not to love.
Fall is one of my favs
He did a song with Taylor Swift on her new album and once I listen to this song I have to listen to it a couple times again because it's so amazing
I've have tried over and over and over again to listen to dubstep to make myself like it but it is useless. I cannot stand it. All my friends listen to it but everytime it gets to the part where all the techno noises are going my head feels like it's going to explode from the annoying-ness. I think I could make music that sounds better than it and I'm not musical at all whatsoever. Dubstep sounds like cassete tape when all the actual tape gets pulled out and messed up. It takes no talent to make. Like congragulations you put a whole bunch of random noises together, claps to you, now I have a headache. The only thing I like in dubstep is the bass drops, they're pretty cool. But then after the bass drop when the music goes on for the rest of the song, there's no need for that. I probably don't like it as much because I like vocals in songs, and I don't have less respect for you if you like it, but definitely not my cup of tea.
One of the most famous Dub makers of the decade, Skrillex. 1. you can't understand what is being said. 2. what does this video have to do with anything. 3. may need to take some aspirin after listening
I mainly write about alternative rock bands and I absolutely love that stuff but I am an enormous country music fan like you don't even know. And one of my favorite singers is Lee Brice. His voice is absolutely gorgeous every time I listen to him I fall in love. Seriously I would marry his voice if I could. He can make it deep, high and sometimes it has a little scratchy sound to it. Another reason why I like him so much is because I feel like his songs have a lot of meaning to him and he writes about things he cares deeply about. Like in his song "I Drive Your Truck" it's about him driving his father's truck who has died and it is such a sad and meaningful song. Everytime I listen to it I can picture a 17-18 year old boy driving this tan, beaten up, one door Chevrolet truck driving in the country. His lyrics are so beautiful and poetic they're like no other country artist's and that is what makes him so special to me.
All time fav, one of his most popular songs Hard To Love
I wasn't a big fan of the Rolling Stones when I heard their music but when I found out they were misogynistic it made me dislike them even more. But then the more I thought about it, A LOT of modern music is misogynistic. Rap and Hip Hop is the worse to me. They're always singing about having sex with girls (not only sex but some other pretty explict things), how hott their bodies are, or even abusing women if the men don't get what they want. That's pretty sick I mean why on earth would you want to sing about this but I think musicians do because teenagers don't care. They don't care what the words are saying if they like the way it sounds, then they will purchase it on iTunes and tell all their friends. Honestly, I listen to rap sometimes, pretty nasty stuff too, and I notice how disgusting it is but I don't do anything about it. I still listen to it. And I feel like that is the problem. Too many people pass up the fact that people are making money by putting down women. Not only are they making money, but the expectation and reputation of women has also gone down. I feel like now guys are more like "oh yeah sex sex sex" and I know that guys have always been like that but it's happening at such young ages now. Girls are expected to do these vulger things that is being talked about in music and that's just not okay. So did the Rolling Stones spark this misogyny in music or was something around before then?
In my opinion, I feel like the Stones put the idea out there and as they became more successful, they kept writing more songs about it of course (why fix something if it ain't broke). But then other bands/groups wanted to be as successful so they sang about it and it just kept spreading. I honestly can't even imagine what music is going to be like in 10, 20 years from now. Will this issue stop? No, I don't think so because too many artists target this and that would cause too much of a ruckus. So will everyone just stop caring what exactly they're listening to because they "like how it sounds"? We'll just have to see.
Imagine Dragons is an alternative band who has a really textured, unique sound to them. "It's Time" is their biggest hit, you've probably heard it considering it comes on 93.3 all the time. But that's pretty much the only song people know by them. A couple weeks ago they came out with a new album called Night Visions and it is absolutely BEATIFUL. The album starts off with the song "Radioactive" which is dubstep and alternative mixed. A little funky sounding but it totally rocks. My favorite song on the album would have to be "Demons". It's one of their slower songs and that's a reason why I like it so much. It begins with Dan Reynolds singing and the rest of the band in the back is really quiet so his voice really stands out. Then when the chorus comes, the band just comes alive and it gets so loud and upbeat, it sounds like a totally different song. Once the second verse starts it goes back down again. Imagine Dragons have such a great flavor to them and that is why they're my all time favorite band.
Night Visions definitely starts off with a bang with the song Radioactive
I've always thought of the Beach Boys as a surfer band because the songs I'd heard from them were surf songs. And I never really understood why people liked them that much. I mean I can understand if you're in Hawaii or at the beach but just to listen to? Um no thanks. But now I know why, 2 words. Pet Sounds. I can't even tell you how much I enjoyed this album. Literally every song is different and that is freaking awesome. It's a little weird all the random noises they put in it though like the bike horns and the dog barking at the end. What does the dog have to do with anything? When "Wouldn't It Be Nice" came on, I automatcially loved it. It has such a great melody and it's not like the normal love songs that were playing at the time like "Love Me Do" or stuff like that. It's just so unique like all the songs on the album and I am most defintely going to get this album and check out more of the Beach Boys later work also.
I'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with the band Maroon 5 for multiple reasons. 1. Their song "One More Night" plays all the time on the radio. 2. Adam Levine is a judge on the show The Voice. They always have a couple of songs that become really popular on the radio but I don't only like those 2 or 3 songs. I like their albums. This may be a shocker but THEY HAVE MULTIPLE GREAT ALBUMS. The most recent one called Overexposed is ah-mazing. Adam Levine has the perfect pop voice and the songs are really upbeat. Two of the songs on the album, Wipe Your Eyes and Beautiful Goodbye are such gorgeous songs and I guarantee very few people know about them because they don't come on the radio. Adam has the perfect voice for slow songs but he doesn't really do a lot of those types anymore. Their album Songs About Jane is fantastic. "Sunday Morning" and "She Will Be Loved" are some of my all time favorites. People have forgotten about them because they're not the new hip stuff but in my opinion they're some of their best work. The instrumentals go so well with Adam's voice it makes me want to cry. They're the type of band that is only recognized for their popular songs and not all their work.
Janice Joplin orginally sang the song called "Take Another Piece Of My Heart". When we listened to this, I immediately recognized the lyrics, but not the melody and her voice. Her voice makes the song sound angry and her voice is shrieking. It sounds like she's literally ripping out your heart. Very violent. Then Faith Hill came and re-did the song and it sounds totally different. Faith Hill's version is the one that I've heard before. It's more of a happy, love song. They're 2 totally different sounding pieces, I'm surprised they're even the same song. Yes, Faith Hill didn't do the same thing as Janice with the song, but maybe she interpretted it a different way. I can never see Faith being angry, and in the live performnace, Janice looked plain frightening. But I feel like Faith sings more of love songs, and the way she sang "Take Another Piece Of My Heart" fits the type of music she sings. Now I don't know anything about Janice's other pieces, but she made the song sound passionate and she definitely put a lot more feelings into it. If I were to just listen to one of the pieces for pleasure, Faith Hill no competition. But which song fits the lyrics better? Janice Joplin definitely.
I honestly don't know how it's taken me so long to discover NEEDTOBREATHE. They're an AMAZING alternative band, and I wish I would have known about them sooner. I've been obsessing with them lately, listening to all their albums on Spotify. My favorite is their album The Outsiders, it's an oldie but a goody. Their lead singer, Bear Rhinehart, sounds a lot like Dave Matthews (who I also adore) and the singer of Kings of Leon. If you like either of those vocalists, then checking out NEEDTOBREATHE is a must. I also like them because they're more of alternative-rock rather than the slow stuff. Their songs make me feel really happy inside, and I like to feel happy which is another reason why they're great. Like honestly I don't know how their songs can make you feel sad, they're definitely the type of band that you'd listen to when you're driving.
This is one of their more popular songs called The Outsiders (you can sing along too).
This is another one of my favs by them called Valley of Tomorrow. They're a little funky looking with the red circle around their eye but that's on the cover art for their album.
Personally, I think the Beatles movies are weird. I love them but Hard Days Night and Help have THE most random plots ever. Seriously a native sacrifice? I mean what does that have to do with the Beatles or their album at all. I liked Help better than Hard Days Night though because the British talking was easier to understand and I prefer color movies because it helps me know what's going on better. My favorite part of Help was the intermission. It was the most random thing I'd ever seen in a movie, it seemed like it didn't even belong in the movie. It was so funny and incredibly unexpected but that's another reason why I like the Beatles so much, because they're goofy and act like children. I love love love when they sing in their movies and I wish yet would of sang more in Help. It seems more of a movie for entertainment rather than Hard Days Night which was more of them singing and in concert.
Over the years I've noticed myself listening to a more variety in music. I used to only listen to one certain genre but as of last year and this year I've come to like basically all types. The reason for this is because of all the different activities I do. Music sets the tone for me. If I'm studying, I like to listen to alternative, like NEEDTOBREATHE or The Lumineers. Before a volleyball game, I listen to hip hop cause it gets me pumped up (and makes me seem pretty cool). But before a softball game, I listen to country. Whatever I do, I like to have a different type of music for it. Through doing this, I've come to notice that music is a very big part of my life and I've become more informed on what I listen to. I notice things in songs that I've never really thought about before such as what the lyrics are saying, what songs have the same sound, and what I specifically like about a certain genre. Music really has impacted me and if you're very selective with your music, try new things, it's not gonna kill you.
I like the band. They're exactly how I imagined Rock and Roll with the slamming of guitars and knocking over of drum sets. Granted they're freaking insane but that seems unique at the time since the Beatles and Stones were both chill bands. Except I find it weird since they look like hipster-chill dudes and they're so destructive. Another reason why I enjoy them so much is because I like Roger Daughtry's voice, it sounds like some of the artists I listen to today. What bothers me is, when they harmonize in their songs. It seems to me like they're trying to sound like the Beatles, which they do a pretty good job at. The Stones do it too but their's just sounds awful because of Jaggar's voice. What's the point of having 3 different bands who all sound the same? Get unique and make your own work. For example, in their song The Good's Gone. When that came on in class I absolutely LOVED it and I was so excited but then the harmony came. It changed the whole sound of the song and I didn't enjoy it anymore. Roger Daughtry has no reason why he would need to harmonize with a voice like his. Over all, I enjoy the band and am excited to listen to more of their work.
Last week when I was listening to 96.7, this Korean song came on. It was insanely weird because it was at night so usually that's when they play the "club" music or whatever but suddenly this Korean song is playing. I thought it was a joke or something but the song is number 1 on iTunes this week which makes no sense to me at all, whatsoever. How is a foreign song number 1 on iTunes? You can't understand 3/4 of the song because it's in a totally different! Why on earth would you listen to a song that you can't understand. The guy seems like the band LMFAO but from Korea. The song could be a good song, I guess, if it was in English. I mean there's translators out there that can translate it to English instead of Korean. It makes me angry, not gonna lie, that a song like that is what everyone is listening to when there are a ton of other amazing songs.

I was expecting the Rolling Stones to be amazing since so many people like them, but when I heard them, I didn't enjoy it at all. The reason why I don't like them is because of Mick Jagger's voice. His voice really bothers me and part of the reason for this could be that I'm comparing it too much to the way the Beatles sound. The harmonies are amazing and sound beautiful but Jagger sounds like he's 50 years old. The Rolling Stones sound a little bluesy and country but then with Jagger's voice it ruins it for me. They're just so different from the Beatles and maybe the more I listen to them, the more I'll like them but after listening to them for one day, I am not a fan.
The Naked and Famous is a band that sounds like Foster the People and Grouplove combined. I know, their name is interesting but that's why I like them, they're unique. Their songs are totally random and honestly I have no idea what half of them mean, but the background music with all the different techno beats and the singer's voice make it sound so great. One of the things I really like is how in some songs the guy is singing but in others it's the Japanese girl. This gives their music a lot more variety in the way it sounds. The 3 links I posted are my favorite songs by them. If you like Coldplay, Foster the People, Young the Giant, or any other hipster band, you should definitely check them out.
When I was younger, I used to dance around my house with my Barbie CD player playing a Beatles CD of their number one hits. That was the only time in my life that I've actually listened to the Beatles before this week. At first, I thought that all their songs sounded the same on their album Please Please Me but now I really enjoy their songs. The reason for my change of opinion is because of the Hard Days Night documentary. All 4 of the Beatles are hilarious the way they make faces at the cameras and do things that I see people my age doing too. They act like a bunch of kids even though they were incredibly successful musicians. My favorite one of them, humor wise, would have to be John Lennon because of how rude he is. He's a total jerk which is what makes him so funny, I mean seriously how do you come up with the whole metal clap thing. He's great. After watching this movie, it makes me enjoy their music 20 times more because of how cute they are joking around all the time and how amazing they were live. Their harmonies are so insanely awesome and perfect I seriously don't understand how they do it.
I know a lot of people don't like country music at all. They say it's for hillbillies, rednecks listen to it, things like that. I used to HATE country music, I mean I couldn't stand it at all. But for some reason 2 years ago I just fell in love with it. I loved how all the songs were about love, having a good time, or doing country things. It's so much better than all the rap that talks about sex and all that stuff. Every song has a good message and one of my favorite country singers is Jason Aldean. Even though he's not attractive, like basically all the rest of the country singers, he has amazing songs. Every single album is good and each album is different. I like artists who have a lot of variety in their music and Jason does just that. My favorite song by him is The Truth because the lyrics are just so unique. These are my favorite lyrics in the whole song (it's part of the chorus):
Just don't tell em I've gone crazy
And I'm still strung out over you
Tell em anything you want to
Just don't tell them all the truth
He never really says what "the truth" is of the song until the end and I really like that. I just love all of his songs so much and all of his albums. There isn't one album of his I don't like. So if you like country music, he is a must listen because I promise you will fall in love fast.
The Beatles made a huge difference to music. Not just rock, but all genres of music with the way they sounded. When they first started playing, they were easily the number 1 hit just because everyone else had slow, boring msuic that didn't have any jive at all. I would definitely listen to the Beatles if I were alive then but now when I listen to their first album, all the songs sound the same. They're all talking about love and a girl he likes and it gets old after the first 3 songs. I would like their album a lot more if they had more variety in the lyrics of their songs. Except I like a lot of their more recent songs like Let It Be and Hey Jude.
Jerry Lee Lewis cracks me up. I just think it's so funny how insane he gets while playing the piano like in the video for Great Balls Of Fire. If that was him sober, I can't imagine what he's like on drugs. Artists nowadays don't get that intense on stage. Of course they'll dance and put on a good show, but I bet concerts with Jerry Lee Lewis were absolutely hypnotic. I can totally picture the audience going crazy while he's just playing away on the piano. What really amazes me is, back then the piano was THE instrument for rock and roll but now, pianos aren't used in bands that much at all. Most have keyboards but guitars are the really big thing used for rock now. It makes me want to go back and really see what it was like to listen to that kind of music because listening to it now is so difficult since music has changed so much.
Coldplay, in my opinion, is a very unique sounding band and they are one of my top favorites. I enjoy them so much because they don't sound like any other band. The lead singer, Chris Martin, can do so many different things with his voice which makes each song so different from each other. Some artists, all the songs have the same melody unlike Coldplay, where each song is totally different. My favorite 2 albums by them are X&Y which was published in 2005 and Mylo Xyloto published in 2011. These albums have TOTALLY different sounds to them. X&Y is majority slower songs while Mylo Xyloto is more upbeat yet all the songs on the 2 albums don't sound alike. You can distinctively tell each song apart from one another. I really enjoy X&Y because my favorite type of songs by Coldplay, are the slower songs. Chris Martin is the reason why. I absolutely love the way he sounds in Yellow and Til Kingdom Come. But in Paradise and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall on the album Mylo Xyloto, he sings at a much faster pace yet he has somewhat of the same sound. I would suggest both the albums to anyone because honestly, how can you not love Coldplay.
